Files over Miles: Browser-to-browser file sharing

You can now send large files directly from one web browser to another. Files over Miles builds on the P2P file-transfer capabilities included in Version 10 Adobe Flash Player. This P2P feature eliminates the need for a server, and allows files to be transferred directly from one browser to another.

Files over Miles: Browser-to-browser file sharing

Files Over Miles includes:

  • High Speed
  • Sending large files is possible
  • Encryption (128-bit AES)
  • Adobe Flash Player 10 works with all browsers
  • UDP Hole Punching

Files Over Miles Limitations:

  • The maximum size of a sent file is limited by the RAM available on the computer that the sender uses (ex. If 755 MB RAM is available, the maximum size of the file that can be sent is 755 MB.
  • The recipient may only receive files smaller than the half of RAM available on their computer. If you have 512 MB free RAM, the largest file that can be received is 255 MB [Limitation of Adobe Flash].
  • It will not work if one or both parties are behind a firewall which blocks UDP packets.
  • The recipient’s browser should remain open during the download.

How to:

  1. Visit http://www.FilesOverMiles.com
  2. Choose the file you want to upload and an unique URL will appear.
  3. Share the URL of the file with the recipient.
  4. The file will then be downloaded into the memory of the sender (the sender must keep the browser open during the entire file transfer).
  5. The file is then transferred to the recipient and loaded in their memory.
  6. The file can be saved on a local drive of the recipient’s PC after it has been transferred.
  7. Close both browser windows when the transfer of files is complete.

Future Development

Files Over Miles, currently in beta stage, will be further developed. In the next phase of development, there will be a BitTorrent protocol to distribute the upstream load for the uploaded file. This will allow the file to share faster. On the other hand, solutions to firewall/network restrictions that are very strict are being developed. On the right-hand side of the webpage, you can also give feedback or suggest new features.

Please let us know what you think of Files Over Miles.
