London England captain Harry Kane insists that he has “never refused to train at Tottenham Hotspur” despite failing to turn up for pre-season testing on Monday.
According to reports, the forward, aged 28, was on vacation in the Bahamas before heading to Florida. There were rumors that he wanted to force a transfer from Manchester City. He said that he would be back to training on Saturday.
Spurs supporters have been harshly critical of his absence on social media.
“It’s been almost ten years since my Spurs debut. Kane tweeted, “It’s been almost ten years since I made my Spurs debut. You — the fans — have shown me total support.”
“That’s why I find it so hurtful to read some of these comments this week, which question my professionalism.
“I won’t get into the details of the situation but I will say that I have never refused to train, and I won’t. Tomorrow (Saturday) I will be back at the club as scheduled.”
Kane, a local boy, has been a fan favorite since he joined the team under Mauricio pochettino. He has scored 221 goals for Tottenham and is second to Jimmy Greaves’ 266 in the club’s all-time scoring record.
He said, “I wouldn’t do anything that would jeopardise my relationship with the fans who have shown me such unwavering support throughout my time with club.”
“This has been true for as long as I can remember.”
Pep Guardiola, City manager, stated that they would only sign Kane (who has three years remaining on his current contract) if Tottenham is willing to negotiate the price.
Guardiola stated that Spurs would need to accept their reported asking price, PS150 million ($208million) before any deal can be made.
