France won their fifth match in succession as Anthony Martial scored his international goal for the first time in five years, earning Didier Deschamps’ team a point in Kyiv.

Manchester United’s forward for Manchester United, sidelined by a knee injury, scored his second goal in 29 caps to erase a stunning first-half strike from Mykola Shaparenko, Ukraine’s midfielder.

Les Bleus are still four points ahead of Finland at the top in Group D, but they have played two more games than Finland, who they face in Lyon on Tuesday. Joel Pohjanpalo’s second-half effort secured Finland a 1-0 win over Kazakhstan.

“We may not be in a better place than we were before this match, but it’s not worse.” Deschamps said that it was just one point, even though our goal was to win all three.

Ukraine has now drawn all five of its qualifiers, including the matches against France.

Day led the Netherlands in a 4-0 victory over Montenegro at Eindhoven. This result kept Louis van Gaal’s side behind Group G leaders Turkey who won 3-0 in Gibraltar.

The Dutch opened the scoring with Depay, a Barcelona star. He scored a penalty and a second-half goal. Captain Georginio Wijnaldum added another fine goal, while Cody Gakpo scored his first with a stunning curling shot for the team.

Van Gaal, who is back in charge for the third time in the Netherlands, said that “Once the goal went in we played a much more relaxed way and produced some very high football.”

“Memphis played an exceptional game. He was, without doubt, the man of the match.

Haaland spot

Erling Haaland scored the second consecutive goal in Norway’s 2-0 win over Latvia as he converted a spot-kick. Mohamed Elyounoussi was also on target in Oslo.

Both Norway and the Netherlands are a point back from Turkey. They will be going to Amsterdam next week.

“We must win Tuesday against Turkey. Van Gaal added that a win would place us in a perfect position to qualify.

Croatia’s 1-0 win over Slovakia as a result of Marcelo Brozovic’s last goal. This ensured that Russia and Croatia were leveled in Group H.

Russia defeated Cyprus 2-0 away, while Slovenia beat Malta 1-0 at home.

Jonas Wind’s 85-minute effort was enough to win 1-0 against the Faroe Islands and give Denmark a fifth win in Group F.

Eran Zahavi completed his midweek hat trick against the Faroes with two more goals that saw him power Israel past Austria, 5-2.

As Lyndon Dykes’ early strike secured a 1-0 victory over Moldova, Scotland moved up to third place above Austria.

Aleksandar Mitrovic scored twice in Serbia’s victory over Luxembourg, 4-1. This result puts Portugal ahead of Serbia on goal difference at Group A’s top.

A late Shane Duffy equalizer saved the Republic of Ireland from a disappointing 1-1 draw in Azerbaijan.
